my ultimate role
The internet sees it, but will it ever happen?
if i could play anyone…
… It would be Eddy Gordo, easily.
Lateef Crowder has been an inspiration to me since before I even started Tricking, namely in his roles in The Protector & the 2009 Tekken movie (bad movie, some good fights). I’ve always thought of him as the real Eddy Gordo, since he literally was, and have modeled a lot of my techniques and stylistic elements to be like his. We haven’t met yet, but I hope to train with him this year and learn in the presence of greatness!
Look at that dude, so cool!
I’ve held fast to the fantasy of playing the new Eddy Gordo if they ever get around to making another movie for like a decade, but I think I may actually have the skillset to be considered in the runnning at this point! Tekken, Harada, and Bandai-Namco have all seen and reposted my cosplay videos before, and even though I didn’t get to help mocap Eddy’s new model for Tekken 8, I hope that my influence finds purchase at the right time. I may not have the traditional sage knowledge of a life-long practitioner, but I make up for it in persistence, variety, and adaptability.
Perfect example right here:
That move right there at the 0:24 mark? That’s my move. I made that up, and to the best of my knowledge, no once else has done it. However, because of my resemblance to Eddy, my cosplay, and my overall style, people attribute a F808Z original move to a Tekken character. How cool is that?
finding capoeira
I didn’t always have a lot when I was younger, but I remember being gifted a PS2 by one of my mother’s friends and Tekken 4 was one of the games it came with. Man, I played that game to DEATH. Eddy wasn’t actually on the roster, but he was an alternate skin for Christie Monteiro (who has the exact same model and moveset), and I would learn the inputs for all of his combos and try to copy the basics myself.
Years later, when I had the opportunity to study some Capoeira for a little while, I jumped right in and learned as much as I could becuase I knew it would be a long time before I could practice with a group again. Fast-forward through some tumultuous teenage years, and I started Tricking & Bboying, which already contains some elements of Capoeira, so I was able to gradually fill in the blanks to techiques I had seen from my childhood. Martial arts are expensive, so this was the best I could do with what I had until I was in college.
Once I started traveling to other states and countries for Tricking gatherings, I started running into highly talented Capoeiristas such as Alfred Kendrick, Kosey Baskin, Eurico Senna, Mike Pinto, Chun Wang, and many more. I began learning from them and taking classes when I could, and of course, stylistic elements from my Bboying & Tricking eventually blended in to give me a style & edge like no one else’s. Naturally, I brought all this with me when I started acting and stunts, and throw in a little cosplay (I made that outfit in the photo by hand!), and here we are!
So, yeah
That’s my [self] fancast, and I hope to at least be in the pool of names they select from when they inevitably do a new movie! Thank you to everyone who supports me for this role, if I get it, I won’t let you down!
